Even though windows XP is one of the older operating systems, many people still need to know how to format windows XP. This is one of Microsoft's great operating systems and people are sticking with it. I can show you how to format windows XP and make your computer like new again.
To format windows XP, the best way is to have your operating system CD and your serial number ready. You will find your serial number or your COA sticker on the side of your computer. This is the number that you need to enter when installing a fresh copy of Windows XP.
The other thing that I suggest is that you backup all of your files as formatting your computer will delete everything that was stored on there previously. I like to backup my files regularly so I do not have a problem if something goes wrong.
Okay let's format windows XP!
1. Insert your windows operating system CD into your CD drive in your computer.
2. Start your computer and boot to the CD by pressing the when it says to ". Press any key..."
3. You will see some files loading and the screen will turn blue. This is normal.
4. You will be prompted to press F8 to agree to some terms and conditions.
5. Then you will see a list of previous versions of Windows that are installed on your computer.
6. Select the one you want and delete that partition by pressing the D on your keyboard. Follow the prompts to confirm this deletion.
7. Now you can press on the C to create a new partition. This is where you will install your fresh copy of Windows.
8. Now you must choose to format windows XP in NTFS. The other option of Fat32 is very outdated and is not used in 2011.
9. You can choose a quick format or a slow format. A slow format will be better to get rid of serious errors.
10. Now your computer will transfer some setup files from the CD to your computer.
11. The computer will then restart. Do not touch any keys on the keyboard as it might ask you to boot to the CD again. We do not want to do this. Do not touch the keyboard.
12. When the computer loads it will be in the Windows XP setup screen. You will be prompted to fill in some forms but it is not necessary.
13. You will be asked to enter your serial number. If you do not have this is ready then you can still proceed as you have 30 days to activate Windows.
14. The process will flow through, and when it restarts you will have a fresh copy of Windows on your computer.
